FSC-certified lumber, plywood, and tropical hardwoods provide all the environmental benefits of wood plus the approval of the most widely-recognized (and LEED-accepted) international forest certification scheme.

American Lumber is FSC Certified (chain of custody number SGS-COC-003868). FSC material, including for LEED applciations, can only be purchased from an authorized source such as American Lumber.

Many countries and forest managers use standards and certification systems other than FSC to ensure that trees are harvested in a legal and sustainable manner and that land is appropriately managed.  We have available an extensive line of lumber from SFI, CSA, and PEFC certified forests.

Even without certification, wood remains a renewable and sustainable resource that is increasingly harvested under stringent rules intended to ensure sustainable land use.  The ANSI certified Life Cycle Audit process has established that wood as a building material is considerably better, environmentally speaking, than concrete or steel.
